The Cuban Ballet Method has a romantic feel that combines the high Russian extension with the fancy Italian footwork and French arm artistry. The Cuban Method has evolved from the Vaganova method, emphasizing dancing with the entire body, promoting harmonious movement among arms, legs and torso and combining the Italian Cecchetti and the French method of dance. In the Cuban Method, the torso is the foundation of all movement; its work is very clean and precise, though not stiff. The dancer's torso, for that reason, needs to be strong and under impeccable alignment and control. These are just some of the things that make the Cuban Ballet Method unique.
There are many things to say of every style of ballet, but during recent years much emphasis has been brought to Cuban ballet dancers as principle dancers around the world.
Cuban dancers have a method of training that combines the best of Russian, French, and English techniques. There is no style of dance that one can say is exclusive, because one will always have to do with the other. This is why Cuban ballet formed not only from one but from all influences. You can see the long and high jumps of the Russian school, with the clean steps and postures of the English, not forgetting the attention to detail of the American ballet, all complimenting a fusion of precision. The whole purpose of the creation of this Cuban technique was to create an ideal style of ballet, which is now known as the “Alonso Style,” a style that, unlike any other, pays attention to the form as a whole and not by its parts, turning the dancer into an aesthetically perfect figure.
